Hatchlings could be reckless, they were still learning to fly, breath elements as well as bond with their riders.

Estelle hummed as she helped patched up the young dragon in her arms, the little beast screeching in delight before it fly off in a hurry. She always found it cute the way they learnt to fly.

A massive shadow suddenly covered herself and the floor, Estelle furrowing her brows as she looked up at the grey dragon. Agust had been following her these last few days.

“Shouldn’t you be with Yoongi?”

Her question was answered with the lord being dumped on the floor, curses spewing from his lips as the dragon dropped him from it’s tail.

“Oh,” Estelle blinked at him.

“Someone is going to start thinking that he belongs to you,” Yoongi spat a mouthful of grass as he spoke.

“It’s sweet he’s taken a liking to me,” Estelle cooed softly, reaching her hands out.

The dragon met her hands, Estelle smoothing over the scales on the dragon’s nose.

“Where’s your dragon?” Yoongi asked.

“She’s nesting with some eggs at the moment,” Estelle explained.

Agust suddenly growled while Yoongi spoke, “She’s had eggs?”

“No, they aren’t her own, don’t worry,” Estelle looked at Yoongi, “We call it egg surrogacy, if a dragon has passed who had eggs, another dragon will adopt and look after those eggs until they hatch,”

Yoongi pursed his lips, “There’s nothing like that in the north, eggs without a dragon will die before they hatch,”

Estelle frowned, she hated how cruel nature could be.

“Perhaps you can set up something like that in the north, you would be compensated,” Yoongi suggested.

Her eyes went wide. He wanted her to come to the North? No doubt, it was all for his dragon’s sake. Agust seemed to have a real rebellious streak when it came to his rider.

“Unfortunately, I’ll be needed here for when Lady Arabella awakens,” Estelle explained, “I’ve also never worked with ice dragons,”

Yoongi huffed, “Why are their no white dragons here other than your own? Is she albino?”

Swallowing thickly, Estelle answered, “Bambi and I weren’t born here, we were adopted into the village when we were young, the old bloods took us in as their own,”

“And made you dragon mother because a white dragon would die instantly in the wild,” Yoongi crossed her arms, “She’s too bright-”

Estelle snapped, “Actually, my lord, you’ll find that Bambi and I are dragon mother for a reason,”

Yoongi was startled by her sudden bite.

“Being dragon mother is not just raising dragons, it’s also helping birth and nurture new dragon riders, I took a vow of Chasity for this role,” Estelle explained to him, “Bambi is the last living light dragon,”

Swallowing thickly, Hyejin was silent as she pulled the gag off from around her mouth. The tattoos on her cheeks had started to spread down her neck, similar to Yuta’s.

Johnny was silent beside her, hands shoved in his pockets while the demon stalked towards then. It was covered in eyes, crawling on six legs.

Mark grabbed her hand, “Hyejin, run-”

“Hyejin,” Johnny cut him off, “You can’t rely on Chenle and Jeno at the moment,”

Mark looked at the old demon exorcist, “Are you insane?! She’ll hurt herself-”

“Die,”

The word came out warped, a grin spreading across Johnny’s lips as he watched the way the demon bubbled before it exploded. Mark’s eyes were wide.

A year ago, Hyejin could barely exorcise a level D demon, let along an A level.

“How..?” Mark whispered.

“She’s not weak,” Johnny shrugged, “Come on,”

Hyejin followed as Johnny turned, walking down the hallway before Mark grabbed her wrist. The exorcist had a confused look on his face.

“Why didn’t you tell me you got stronger?” Mark asked, “I wrote to you,”

She pouted, gently pulling her wrist away from his grasp. Maybe Hyejin had better control over her abilities but that didn’t mean she was strong.

“Sorry..,” Was all she said before turning, rushing down the hallway after Johnny.

Jungkook rolled his eyes as he sat atop his dragon, all of the village people gathered near the summit of the mountain. There was a temple leading into a cave, no doubt the enterance of the old ones liar.

Namjoon had gone on about how this was a great part of history, seeing the old blood emerge from their slumber. They’d been asleep for twenty years now, the eclipsed moon high in the sky calling their awakening.

Jungkook thought it was stupid, seeing a bunch of old people wake from their sleep.

“This is boring,” Jungkook huffed.

“Not enough bloodshed for you?” Hoseok chuckled from beside him.

“Oh great, we get to see some old lizards wake up,” Jungkook rolled his eyes again, “Why do they even sleep?”

The red head dragon rider shook his head, “You’ve obvious never read the history of the old ones,”

“I read only the interesting parts,” Jungkook shrugged.

A roar so loud that it shook the ground and the very mountain erupted from nowhere, Jungkook struggled to hold onto his saddle of his dragon. Rocks tumbled from the mountain, crashing down to the Earth.

A scent filled Jungkook’s nose before he saw anything, a sweet smell of honeysuckle with a hint of morning dew. A comforting smell, making his canines ache as he inhaled.

From the mouth of the cave, a woman walked out, wrapped in a long black coat that covered her body. Her skin was like snow, large purple eyes looking over the people while freckles dusted her plump cheeks.

“Anima mate..,” Jungkook whispered, the words leaving his lips before he could stop himself.

Hoseok’s eyes went wide in horror.

The dragon rider was off his dragon in an instant, Hoseok quick to follow him. He approached the woman in a hurry, canines extended as he did so.

“Jungkook, don’t-”

Before Jungkook could reach out to her, another deafening roar shook the mountain.

A massive black dragon, almost as large as the mountain itself crawled over the top of the summit. It’s eyes glowed a dark purple, eyes in slits as it snarled.

Jungkook reached towards the woman, only for Hoseok to pull him back and earn a growl from the dragon rider.

The woman turned, smiling brightly up at the dragon.

“Papa!” She exclaimed happily.

Realization dawned on the dragon rider’s face.

“Faex..,”

Estelle shut the door as soon as she saw the person standing behind it. The awakening meant that the lords and kings were staying, for a while.

Reopening the door, Estelle sighed, “Can I help you, my lord?”

Yoongi had a pissed off look on his face although Estelle wasn’t sure she’d ever seen him happy.

“I need your help to find my dragon,” Yoongi stated.

“I think you can find your own dragon,” Estelle sighed, “I’m busy with the awakening happening-“

“Agust won’t listen to me,” Yoongi huffed, “I know where he is, I need your help,”

Reluctantly, Estelle threw on a coat and ended up following the lord.

She’d only heard stories of the Nothern Icelands, the lord of the north was said to live in a frozen castle on the top of a mountain. It was a hard place to get to, even on dragon back.

Maybe that’s why he was so cold towards everyone.

They walked through the forest, finding to same clearing that they had met. Only a thick sheet of frost and ice covered the ground.

Dragons from different regions had different heart stones, which controlled their element. A dragon from the north more than likely breathed ice.

Agust was sat in the middle of the ice, curled around himself. Yoongi huffed.

“He’s sulking,”

“His mate rejected him,” Estelle looked at him, “Stay there,”

Yoongi grumbled and crossed his arms, waiting. Agust had been the harshest dragon in the north, he was a war hardened beast.

Yet this small woman with golden locks approached the grey creature calmly, carefully treading over the ice. It’s large red eyes opened, in slits and watching her.

“It’s alright,” Estelle softly touched the dragon’s cheek, fingers brushing over the cool scales, “I understand how it feels to be heartbroken,”

The dragon let out another cry, Estelle softly resting her head against the scales. She could feel the frosty cold coming from the beast, her fingers skimming over its cheek.

“I know it’s not fair but he does need you,” Estelle whispered, “The same way you need him,”

Yoongi’s jaw dropped at how his dragon nudged Estelle back softly, accepting her instantly.

The creature stood, stalking back towards Yoongi only after scooping Estelle up in one of its clawed paws.

She was placed back down gently next to Yoongi.

“He hates people,”

“It’s called being gentle,” Estelle nodded as she turned, “I have hatchlings to look after,”

Yoongi watched as she walked back, quickly and back towards the village. His own dragon nudged him harshly, almost knocking him over.

“Stupid lizard,” Yoongi hissed.

All he got back was a shot of calm air in the form of a growl.

The roost is filled with no eggs, no doubt breeding season this year was a success with the amount of eggs sitting in the flaming coals.

Estelle smiled softly at the different eggs, cooing softly as she looked at each of them. Dragon eggs all had different colours, matching the dragon inside.

Footsteps make her look up, a red head girl walking in with a grin on her lips. Kyra was the village’s witch, one of the two who resided in their little mountain side village.

“The lords are gathering,” Kyra explained, “King Ayden is due to wake up in three weeks time,”

Estelle nodded slowly, “I wonder if Belle will have her dragon form,”

The last remaining old blood dragons, Ayden and Grace. The last of the dragons who could take human forms. After interbreeding with humans, dragons were born alongside a human. An egg would hatch at the same time a human babe took a breath outside the womb.

“No one knows,” Kyra frowned, “Rosalie has had no visions either,”

Rosalie, the other village witch, had visions of the future. She helped to guide the village and the dragon riders within it.

Estelle followed her friend outside the roost, her dragon sleeping peacefully outside the building. Bambi was surrounded by younger dragons, curled up under her wings.

“When are the lords arriving?”

Kyra didn’t need to answer the question. A loud roar filling the air as three dragons passed over the village, landing in the perch.

There was a large gold dragon with hints of green scales and an even larger purple dragon with black spikes over its back.

Estelle’s eyes went wide at the last dragon, a grey beast.

“King Hoseok of the western plains, Prince Jungkook of the Southern lands and Lord Yoongi of the northern ice lands-“

A loud roar suddenly erupted from behind them both, Bambi standing to full attention, her blue eyes in slits as she hissed.

The grey dragon let out a similar sound, Estelle flinching slightly as Kyra looked at her.

“Estelle!”

“We may have met..,”

The owner of the dragon was hunting towards them, Estelle simply turning and walking back towards the roost.

“Dragon mother!”

“My lord-“

Another roar sounded, this time the ground shaking as the grey dragon approached with its owner. Bambi hissed lowly.

“I owe an apology-“

“What for?” Estelle asked softly, “You rejected us,”

The grey dragon roared again, this time it’s anger seemed to be directed towards its rider. There was an annoyed look on Yoongi’s face.

Estelle was amused. No doubt this apology was for the dragon.

“My dragon wishes to be with his mate,” Yoongi stated loudly.

Looking at her dragon, who was standing tall and protectively of the roost. As outsiders, Yoongi and his dragon couldn’t step across the boundaries of the roost.

It was considered a sacred site.

Bambi turned her head, obviously displeased.

“I don’t think my dragon returns the favour,”

There was a painful cry from the grey dragon, followed by it jumping into the air and flying off. Estelle stared in surprise while Yoongi gritted his teeth.

Dragons never left their riders, ever.

The lord turned, stomping away from the roost. Kyra looked at Estelle, a grin on her lips.

“I want details,”

Arabella found a sister in Sophia.

Sophia found a sister in Ayden.

Ayden found a partner in Ari.

Ari found a family in Arabella, Ayden and Sophia.

Yuna is really gentle in the same way Estelle is, Yoongi notices it more than Estelle does. The way that Yuna interacts with people and even plays with toys, she’s just sweet.

Sweet Tooth. Soyeon and Julius don’t have much of a sweet tooth but Yuna loves sweet food and really doesn’t like bitter tasting things.
